Highland Hippie Cows and Horses Find a New Home
White Ranch Park has always been a place where visitors can connect with nature and experience the beauty of Wyoming’s landscapes. Now, there’s even more to discover: the park is home to a herd of Highland cows and five friendly horses! These shaggy “coos,” known for their long horns and distinctive coats, come with a story that stretches beyond the park’s borders.
The cows once belonged to Dave Dearcorn, a man whose passion for these gentle, exotic-looking animals matched the serene spirit of White Ranch Park. While Dave spent his youth racing horses and cars, he found a special kind of peace in Highland cows as he grew older. Their calm, friendly nature—and their almost mythical appearance—captivated him and his family.
White Ranch Park is honored to continue the Dearcorn Highland Cow legacy with a dedicated breeding program that ensures the herd’s future and brings a new layer of wonder to the park. As you hike or bike along the trails at the base of Sundance Mountain, keep an eye out for these gentle creatures grazing and exploring their new home. It’s yet another way the park lives out the mission of the George and Betty White Foundation.
Come visit soon and see how the Highland cows and horses add to the unique charm of White Ranch Park—where conservation and community come together under the wide Wyoming sky.
